Advancing HIV Screening and Treatment: A Health Center’s Experience

ECRI Institute Webinar on behalf of HRSA

Health centers and free clinics play a key role in ending the HIV epidemic. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) goal to reduce new HIV infections by at least 90% in 10 years promotes strategies including diagnosis, early treatment, protection, and response. Health centers see nearly 200,000 patients with HIV each year and should be prepared to implement programs to care for these patients along with reducing new cases of the infection.

The webinar presenter was Jennifer Reske-Nielsen, MD, from Fenway Health, a federally qualified health center and world-renowned provider of HIV/AIDS care. Dr. Reske-Nielsen discussed the organization’s approaches to providing screening, comprehensive care, and treatment to people living with HIV. The webinar covered the following:

• The roles of health centers and free clinics in HIV diagnosis, prevention, and early treatment
• Practical strategies for making HIV screening and early treatment programs operational in health centers and free clinics
• Potential challenges encountered and lessons learned

The webinar recording will be archived on the ECRI Institute's Clinical Risk Management website. This part of the website is a members-only page. Access can be requested by emailing  Clinical_RM_Program@ecri.org. For members, the webinar recording will be highlighted via the bi-weekly Risk & Safety e-News.
