Here’s a sad story. Healthcare organizations are woefully late to the data governance party. While companies in many industries have long been clear on the fundamental (and critical) goals of a data governance program, healthcare organizations are just starting to see the light. How can you enable better decision-making, reduce operational friction, protect the needs of data stakeholders, train management and staff to adopt common approaches to data issues, build standard, repeatable processes, reduce costs and increase effectiveness through coordination of efforts and ensure transparency of processes? Is all of that even possible? It is. With the proper data governance program.

Data governance is about building an organizational capability to get value from enterprise data.

The HITEQ Center hosted a webinar to learn about the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s revised Substance Abuse Confidentiality Regulations for Health Information Exchange Final Rule (referred to as 42 CFR Part 2) and how it may affect your health center. The webinar included information from the Final Rule published on January 3, 2018. Reece Hirsch of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP provided an overview of the critical changes affecting health centers, including common definitions, and how the changes may affect integrated medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) programs. 

Over the years, telemedicine has grown quickly as equipment costs have decreased and there is more support from a regulatory and reimbursement perspective. An implementation guide and webinars on related key topics are found within.

Are you doing innovative things to address the social determinants of health or other topics of interest to health centers?  We encourage you to submit your work as a poster abstract to NACHC’s Community Health Institute (CHI)!  The CHI is the largest gathering of health center stakeholders on record.  This year’s conference will take place in Orlando at the Hyatt Regency Orlando from August 26^th – 28^th with the poster session taking place on Sunday, August 26^th.

The deadline to submit poster abstracts is Friday, April 6^th.
