The process of finding and hiring the best-qualified candidate for a Quality and/or Health IT job in your health center is time-intensive and challenging. Having job vacancies or recruiting the wrong person can cost the organization in terms of real money, time spent, morale, and productivity. Successful hiring requires refining the recruitment process, which includes analyzing the requirements of a job, attracting employees to that job, screening and selecting applicants, and hiring the new employee to the organization.

This section includes resources to help you define and refine your recruiting methods.  These are tools that have been tested by health centers in the field and are proven to work. These resources reflect the combined experience of several successful health centers around the country.

Creating a Leadership Team for Successful EHR Implementation

Creating a Leadership Team for Successful EHR Implementation

A Resource from the Health Information Technology Research Center (HITRC) and the Doctor’s Office Quality Information Technology University (DOQ-IT University) for The National Learning Consortium (NLC)

This resource is intended to aid providers and health IT implementers in identifying a leadership team for a successful EHR implementation.  Selecting the right people for an EHR implementation team is a critical step in a successful implementation. In general, members of the team should be enthusiastic, well-respected and forward thinking. Team members should bring differing perspectives on how the EHR will be used and provide a wide array of skills and knowledge. The size of a practice will determine the size of the implementation team. For smaller practices, one person may be managing several of the areas of responsibility included.

This resource includes a template to document the leadership team; fill in the template as it is relevant to the practice.

This document had been reviewed by the advisory board and domain experts. Despite its intent for the broad provider audience, it is still highly relevant and helpful to health centers assembling a leadership team for EHR implementation.
